Young African Business Booster

Who is YABB: Young African Business Booster (YABB) is a nonprofit organization based in Kigali, Rwanda that incentivizes and trains youths through a Capacity-building package that helps them create their own business ideas with an aim of reducing unemployment and migration from rural areas to cities and abroad which is the central cause of poverty and migration of rural youths in sub-Saharan Africa.

Youth unemployment has resulted into many challenges like drug abuse, early marriages, migration, increased crime rates, high dependency and many others.

The overall objective of this organisation is to contribute to reducing youth unemployment and migration through help them to create and start their own businesses. We look forward to change the lives of young people through giving them the methods, technics, skills, knowledge and creativity on how to reinvent themselves.

We train youth with high school education and school dropouts due to lack of financial support. Our capacity building package, consisting of an entrepreneurial tool box with theoretical and practical contents helps them to develop and strengthen their entrepreneurial mindset. This induces innovation, creativity and opportunities for youth to come up and implement their own sustainable businesses.

The big emphasis is put into agribusiness (80%) because there are unused potentials in agriculture that can generate employment to young people. And if we do not use agriculture to generate employment, Rwanda’s and as well as Africa’s youth unemployment will not be solved over the coming two decades.

Why Agribusiness?

Agriculture is already Africa’s largest employer where almost 90% of rural households and more than two-thirds of the young people work in agriculture. Due to increased population there is growing demand for food which creates opportunities for suppliers and potentially for young people around the continent.

We focus more on helping young people to engage and realize opportunities in agribusiness that could generate millions of job opportunities for them and in their communities. We offer skills about how to come up with different creative and innovative business in agriculture like food processing (value addition), packaging, transportation, use of technology, different sustainable farming methods including vertical farming, hydroponics, aquaponics and many more.
